opened in 1967 as part of the Newport Center Mall was involved in the department stores, Buffum’s, JW Robinson’s, Broadway and JC Penney. These four original buildings were designed by architect William Pereira and Welton Becket, and are surrounded by a number of smaller shops. The Spanish architectural theme that defines the shopping center can be seen later, Robinson Building. In late 1970, oxen Wilshire (later I. Magnin) and Neiman Marcus added. In the early 1980′s, JC Penney moved, and the building in use was rebuilt and reopened, “Atrium Court”, which a number of smaller shops and a food court at a lower level contained.

the southwest entrance to Robinson, including a bronze wind chime mural artist Tom Van Sant, was installed in September 1967, which was recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s largest wind chime. (Potentially moved Eureka Springs, Ark. in 2007.)
In 1988, the center was a major expansion and renovation plan, the addition of Jon Jerde Island Terrace Food Court, eight-screen cinema, and three new stores, all of which align themselves with a circular courtyard animated fountain that shoots jets of water up to 30feet (9.1) high. This fountain is known as “Iris Fountain”, because the radial leaf pattern of the marble-coating in combination with a water jet, which refers to the iris plant.
In 1990, the Wilshire store in steers were I. Magnin. Federated Department Stores, a chain I. Magnin property is closed in the mid 1990s, and the store was replaced by Store Bullock women. When the federal chain of stores shuttered Bullock changed again Macy’s Macy’s Men’s Store. Buffum’s closed 1991 and the state then divided into smaller stores. Upon the establishment of JW Robinson’s and May Company store in California, Robinson became a Robinsons-May, 1993. Broadway, whose parent company was bought by the Federal was removed in 1996, and was replaced by one of the first Bloomingdale’s are stored on the West Coast.
the early 2000s, the mall was in addition to minor bug fixes and a result of changing reimbursement landscape elements, walls, furniture, flooring and materials to better respond to the Mediterranean theme. Under this renovation a batch of a carousel and a wing restaurants and shops, even when the carousel was removed in January 2010 as part of major renovations of the center.
Federated-May merger in 2006 a strong influence on the Fashion Island, leading to the closure and decommissioning of 80,000 square feet (7.400 m2), Macy’s Women’s Store and convert the former Robinsons-May, with full on-line Macy’s store.
Dean & DeLuca announced that it will be a new West Coast flagship store in Fashion Island to open in autumn 2009. These plans were later canceled.
January 29, 2008, Nordstrom announced signed a letter of intent with a 138 000 square feet (12,800 m2) store to open in 2010, the former Macy’s women’s store location.
In 2009, the Irvine Company began at 0 million renovation of the mall and the Spanish style, Italian style change. The work will last until the autumn of 2011.

Christmas
a large courtyard outside the building of the Bloomingdale’s in a big Christmas tree each year . About a week before Christmas every year, tree lights, preceded by exaggerated holiday performances. Trees are taken for private tree near Mount Shasta, Fashion Island and transported a number of items, which can then be refitted with steel bars and a large crane. [Edit]
Since 1983, timber Fashion Island is generally the peoples of the highest. M Resort had that distinction in 2009.
